Sustainability
We've made sustainable choices for our products and packaging.
Humble Packaging
Coffee Bags
100% Kerbside Recyclable
All of our coffee bean packaging is “kerbside recyclable”. This means that once empty, you can simply drop the coffee bag into the same bins as your regular paper and cardboard recycling. No need to add an additional soft plastic recycle stream, or remove any valves, tags or fasteners.

Shipping Cartons
100% Kerbside Recyclable
Made with recycled materials and can be fully recycled in the same kerbside recycling stream.

Why Paper & Cardboard?
We believe that while there is growing access to recycling streams for soft plastics and other materials, the best packaging option is the one that will BE recycled, rather than just 'recyclability'.
Recycling isn't just the diversion of materials from landfill. Recycling happens when those materials are reused.
Recycling of paper and cardboard is the most common and accessible form of recycling. It's deeply integrated into the habits and understanding of Australian consumers, and there is also a well established demand for new products made with recycled paper materials.
The recycling industry is rapidly evolving, and Humble Brag will continue to assess the best options for our products and packaging.
Coffee Waste
Greenhouse Gas
When spent coffee grounds and other organic waste are disposed of in landfill, their decomposition can lead to higher greenhouse gas emissions than if that same waste was purposefully composted and reused.
What's more, coffee grinds contain valuable nutrients and can be used as an input for farms, community gardens and backyard veggie patches.
That's why we're working on partnerships across Australia that will allow our business customers to bundle coffee grind collection with their coffee supply.
Reground Collection Program
If you are a business or cafe located in Melbourne, you can opt to have your used coffee grinds collected regularly by our partners, Reground.
Humble Brag can manage integration of this service for you. Providing a single point of contact as well as rolling billing into a single Social Enterprise vendor (that's us).
Easy peasy
Australia-wide
Because coffee grounds collection is an emerging industry, we’re still working on securing reliable and capable services for locations outside of Melbourne.
Keep an eye on this page or our socials to see when we've landed another great partner.
Pod Recycling
The Problem with Pods
We know coffee pods are convenient and simple. However, when they end up in landfill they can pose a real environmental problem.
Our pods, and pod recycling programs have been designed with responsible consumption and convenience in mind.
Reducing Packaging & Shipping
To reduce the overall amount of packaging we use, we’ve opted to provide our specialty coffee pods in bulk packs of 50 or 100.
Imagine replacing 10 orders of 10 pods (the industry standard package size) each with product packaging, mailing boxes and courier trips with a single order of 100.
Plus you pay just once for shipping, rather than over and over.
Saving those resources, and your hard earned seems like a win/win situation to us.
Recyclable Packaging
100% Recyclable. Our pod cartons are fully recyclable cardboard and have a convenient tear and fold access opening to make it easy to grab your morning coffee hit.
Pod Recycling Made Easy
Our coffee pods are aluminium and filled here in Australia.
With every purchase of our bulk 50 or 100 pack coffee pods, you can opt to receive a pre-paid recycling satchel at no extra cost to you.
Simply fill your free satchel with pods as they're used, seal it up, and drop it into any Australia Post mailbox to be sent for recycling.
Workplace Pod Collection Program
Are you and office or workplace using our coffee pods in higher volumes?
Let's talk about our ongoing pod collection and recycling programs.
We'll support you to setup collection points on site and help arrange your pickup frequency. We can manage billing and reporting all in-house.
Our Pod Journey
Aluminium Pods
We’ve carefully weighed up the pros and cons of different coffee pod materials, and aluminium was the clear front-runner.
Our goal was to ensure that our products will actually be recycled, rather than just theoretically recyclable.
Aluminium pods have more establised recycling streams and programs, that more people can access.
Further, by providing easy means by which our customers can access these streams (free recycling satchels, anyone?), we feel that more of our product will actually make it into the recycling/circular economy than otherwise.
Aluminium vs Compostable
During development, Humble Brag also researched and tested home compostable coffee pods. While this material seemed, at face value, to be a great option, there are significant barriers to ensuring these pods are actually composted and their materials reused.
Home compostable plastics like those with AS5810 certification, or commercial AS4736 certification can still take significant amounts of time to break down in real-world scenarios. Because of this, very few organic waste composters won't accept even certified compostable plastics. In fact, we couldn't find any.
Our research also found that many consumers who have the space and inclination to compost at home are reluctant to add even certified home compostable products into their compost heaps.
These consumers cite uneasiness about other possible contaminants that may be present in the compostable plastics.
With this in mind, we concluded that while compostable pods seem like a great idea at first glance, most of our compostable pods would end up in landfill.
The Outcome
Aluminium wins, when paired with an easy to use pod recycling program.
Aluminium is easily and infinitely recyclable. Products made from recycled aluminium materials can carry only 8% of the carbon footprint of equivalent products made with virgin aluminium.
